I’m Chris: husband, father, thinker, writer;
a social scientist with research interests in migration, mobility, ethnicity, nationalism, urban heritage and political discourse.

Trained in anthropology and sociology at Eötvös Loránd University of Budapest and Central European University, I currently work as a Lecturer (Assistant Professor) in Sociology at Newcastle University (UK), where I teach mainly quantitative research methods courses.

My approach to research is comparative, interdisciplinary and multimethodological. In my work I have combined ethnographic observation, document analysis, survey methods and statistical modelling. My main scholarly preoccupation at the moment is studying probabilistic reasoning and Bayesian inference, with a view to applying them to my areas of research interest rethought through the prism of situated human action and decision-making.

I’m enthusiastic about transparency and reproducibility in the social sciences, and I enjoy working with open-source research tools and statistical programming languages, which have also made this website and its contents possible.

I intend this site to be an open catalogue of my work in progress, planned projects, recent publications, half-baked ideas, and in general a window to the world.
